September 19, 2006I am now part of the elite class of… oinkers? Oink.me.uk is a crazy exclusive bittorrent community. Luckily I found some very nice people to invite me in. Can you imagine downloading that new album you can’t find anywhere else on the net 2 weeks before it comes out? How about downloading it in less than 2 minutes? Now you may see the advantages of a community like this.
There has to be a catch though, right?
Of course there is, but it’s simply common courtesy as bittorrent goes, meaning you must have a fair share ratio (meaning you upload at least half as much as you download). But I haven’t found it to be an issue yet.

Update: Please don’t ask for invites, I only recieve them once I become a power user (upload 10 GB, be a member for 2 weeks, and keep a ratio of at least 1.05). I’ll announce when I become a power user on this blog, and I’ll be happy to invite people as long as they send me some kind of proof that they won’t cheat and that they’ll maintain a good ratio.

Just wanted everyone to know oink ain’t all its cracked up to be. I was an oink memeber for about a year until i got the boot. Why you ask, well i was trying to improve my ratio so i decided to upload a few very rare cds. Next morning i see they have been deleted and that my account has been disabled. I go to the irc chat room to figure out what happened and as soon as i tell them my login i get banned. So i go to a new location to have a new ip and i get into the chat room again. I was told i was stealth downloading, which i didn’t even know what that was at the time. I ask the guy how does that work and he asks for my login again. Reluctantly i give it to him and he says ‘oh i remember you, go away’ and im banned again. So for trying to share very rare cds, that are selling on ebay for 350 a piece I get banned with no explanation. So its not worth it, join demoniod they have just as much stuff and the moderators aren’t unfair.

What’s so special about Oink???? I can’t believe ’someone’ said this. I used to be a member as well, but I lost my account due to an extended internet lapse… but I found they were great because people took great care to ensure the quality of their rips, and I loved it when people would post entire discographies… I would so desperately love to get back in… so anyone with invites, please let me know because I have 34000 mp3s and a 24 hour internet connection waiting to be shared to a worthy tracker.

Well I guess I should start by mentioning that I am a musician; I am currently attending the conservatory full time in order to achieve my goal, become a musician and consequently be able to live off of my biggest passion: music. I estimate I have about 1 Terabyte of music (two 400 GB hard drives and the rest of my physical collection (most of it is already ripped, that’s why it’s not that big)) that I would love to share. I have learned that music is about sharing, that is why I love playing, I love sharing my music with people; this is why I am more than happy to share my collection of music with the Oink community.

I just got an invite to the site. Most torrents are heavily seeded. like 17 seeders 0 leechers or 90 seeders 2 leechers. They insist you keep a good ratio there or you will be banned, however I can’t find one torrent to seed. Most that appear to have any leechers on them are people who only downloaded part of the torrent and are seeding that part. On demonoid, I just searched for a torrent with 1000 seeders and 1200 leechers and seeded it a whole bunch, however on oink.me, this is impossible. I will most likely end up getting banned because everything I downloaded so far has gotten 0 upload. I don’t know how that site stays afloat. People are afraid to download new torrents because their ratio will go to hell and they’ll be banned, so they’re all stuck on seeding dead torrents in hopes to improve or maintain it.

I can’t believe what r u people talking!! First of all, if r all so good seeders and have so many ratio proofs to share u could go to some sites dedicated to trading invites (or even giving them for FREE)…u just need to use google and ur head a little! and dont say that things like: “I’ve been trying to find invite for OINK for 3 years now”, thats so pathetic.
and believe me what im saying i got my OINK invite just after 15 days of looking, so it’s possible..
and for conclusion, dont ask from invites here, when owner of this blog get invites im sure he will post them here, or somewhere else, so keep on trying on other places, they won’t fall from the sky!!!

Lots of audience sourced live recordings, radiorips of singles all in bad quality. They pass the admins cause of an “etiquette” not to report them.
I was an active member, but that no discussion attitude really sucks. All the same stuff can be found at public trackers !
Yeah it is ok to have 100.000+ members, but if you can not handle that do not qualify yourself as the best torrent site on the net. It’s a bunch of amateurs who do not have an openmind for all music, but ok … it is their tracker.
It’s also a moneygenerating machine for the owner of course. With that lot of members and even a little % donating there. Say 5% = 1000*5 euro = 5.0000 at least and i expected it to be a little bit more than that. Well decide for yourself …
Oh yeah and they are even taking down torrents if that is requested by bands or their management.

To be completely honest, Oink isn’t worth the search. I find that any album that I want, I can get from Demonoid at a faster rate. The only reason why I’d probably try Oink again is because the music there is high quality and sometimes FLAC, but besides that, I can easily get an album in 192 – 320kbps from demonoid. I dunno if that site will last longer since hardly anyone leeches because they fear their ratio will go down, and it’s hard to get and maintain a good ratio without cheating.
